Camel Safari with Private Desert Camp

The Thar at dusk — silence, stars, and a camp that's nothing like the tourist version.

A camel trek through the Thar Desert to a private camp outside Jaisalmer — not the crowded tourist camps at Sam Sand Dunes, but a vetted operator with comfortable bedding, a private chef, and genuine desert silence.

About This Experience

The Sam Sand Dunes outside Jaisalmer are beautiful and ruined. Hundreds of jeeps, dozens of camps, loud music, and a crowd that makes the desert feel like a parking lot. The Thar Desert deserves better than that, and so do you. Antara works with a Rajasthani operator whose family has lived in the Thar for generations. The camp is set up in a location that other groups can't see or hear — no generators humming, no amplified Bollywood. You arrive by camel, riding through scrub and dunes as the light turns gold, and the camp appears on a rise: proper bedding under canvas, a private kitchen, lanterns instead of floodlights, and a horizon in every direction. Dinner is cooked over an open fire — dal baati churma, the dish the Thar was built on — while a local musician plays the kamaicha (a stringed instrument you've never heard and won't forget). After dinner, the fire dies down, and the stars take over. The silence is the point. In the morning, chai arrives before sunrise, and you ride back as the desert cools.
